Sitting just on the edge of the city, the Scottsdale base is connected to both urban life and the desert landscape. Opened in 1937 as a winter studio, Taliesin West continues today as a working architecture school founded by Frank Lloyd Wright himself. Spread out across the desert floor are a cluster of single-storey, organic structures, including art studios, student accommodation, a cabaret theatre, and a museum.

At the far end of the room, Levine installed a lush purple sofa with cocktail tables, creating the perfect spot for drinks, dessert, or relaxing with a cup of coffee. Designer Rachel Scheff used the home’s spectacular ceiling, woodwork, and stained glass as the inspirations for her fanciful, flora- and fauna-filled foyer. “It was one of my favorite rooms in the house because it was the one that had the most history preserved, and I wanted to really celebrate that,” she told AD PRO.

The new facility includes individual work spaces/studios, a well-equipped Makerspace, conference rooms and the 2,000-square-foot Roski Graduate Gallery. While the buzz around NFTs might have seemingly quietened down alongside volatility and crashes in the crypto market, Robert Alice reminds us of the thriving art scene within its cultural sphere. On NFTs, edited by the London-based artist and published by Taschen, is the largest art historical survey on blockchain-based art to date.

With no requirement to specialize in a medium, you can focus on what’s relevant to your needs and interests. The Palacio de Mansilla has been a central university hub for Segovia and its residents for over four decades. Until 1969, Segovia lacked a local university, prompting efforts led by Adolfo Suárez to establish the Segovia University College, named after Domingo de Soto. With support from Caja Segovia, the institution opened its doors in November 1969, housed in the historic building on Trinidad Street.

Sweeping panoramas of the McDowell mountains can be contemplated from Wright’s sun-filled living room built from the rocks and sand of the Sonoran Desert, or while floating in the back garden’s elevated pool. The Depression was in full swing, materials were cheap, which is a large reason the structure only cost $400,000 to complete. It’s an Art Deco masterpiece offering unrivaled views of Los Angeles — and the stars. Designer Stephanie Hatten updated the Gatehouse Kitchen, turning it into an airy English-country-inspired space. An eye-catching natural stone by Walker Zanger was selected for the counters and backsplash, and the space was outfitted with the latest Monogram appliances. Maria Videla-Juniel turned the primary bath into a sumptuous retreat with hues of soft blue and brown.

These are the California cities where $150,000 still buys you a home. Could you live here?

The Case Study House project was part of an effort between the 1940s and 1960s to design affordable homes that kept up with the increased demand for housing following World War II. Experts describe structures exhibiting it (including the LAX Theme Building) as “exaggerated” and futuristic. Meier incorporated two ridges in the landscape that serve to divide its galleries and administrative buildings. It is the starting point of many Los Angeles architecture tours for reasons other than its central location. It combines the very best qualities of Mission Revival, Art Deco, and Spanish Colonial architecture. In this post, we’ll take a look at 25 of the most iconic Los Angeles buildings.
